Changing A Flat Tire

How to change a flat tire

A flat tire caused due to the inflation of air in the tire. At such times, there is a dire need for changing the flat tire or inflate it if it’s not too badly damaged. The process of changing the tire is not very pleasant. For those of you who dread the process, changing the tire can be very easy if you have the right tools with you.

The most important thing in this process is to find a spare tire. You should keep a spare tire just for such situations. With the air pressure gauge check the spare tire’s pressure to make sure it is not another flat one.

Changing A Flat Tire

Before doing anything, check if you have the emergency brakes on, you don’t want your vehicle to drive itself. Make sure that the vehicle is parked on a flat ground and not on a slope or in dirt. If you cannot find a flat ground, place an heavy object near the tires, blocking any movement.

Loosen the wheel lugs with the tire iron. You will have to use a lot of force, as the lugs will be tight. Make sure you are forcing on the anticlockwise direction. Do not remove the lugs, you just need to loosen them. Using the jack, raise the car up by turning the knob at the end of the jack until it hits the frame of the car and continue turning the knob until the car is raised to the desired level so that we can remove the tire without any blocks.

Now that you have raised the car, you can remove the lugs completely. Do not lose the lugs, keep them in a secure place so that they don’t roll off. The nect step is to place the spare tire aligned with the holes in the wheel and the the protruding wheel studs on the brake hub.

Make sure that the spare tire is properly placed with the wheel studs. Now the wheel lugs can be screwed back on. Be careful you don’t cross thread them, make sure the lugs are tightened in the right way. This can be done initially by hand and then by a tire iron to tighten it. Make sure that the tire is flushed in with the brake hub.

Once you have the spare tire on, you can lower the jack slowly. After the car is firm on ground, take away the jack and tighten the lugs completely. We tighten the lugs so that the tire is resting on the ground and wont rotate around the lugs.

Most spare tires are smaller than the regular tires. It is also possible that these spare tires may differ in speed with the rest of the tires. These speed limits for the spare tires are written on the sidewalls of the tire. It should be enough to drive you till your home or the next service station where you can get your tire fixed.
